Fashion Accelerator – FAQ

  1. Is the Fashion Accelerator a registered training organisation (RTO) course?
    No, it is an adult based program facilitated by relevant industry experts designed for startup fashion businesses. Each participant should have an ABN prior to starting the program.
  2. What is the starting and finishing date?
    The program commences on February 14 2017 and will conclude on 17 August 2017.
  3. Where is the Fashion Accelerator Program held?
    The core components are held at the QUT Creative Enterprise Australia in Brisbane, which is located at QUT’s Creative Industries Precinct at 34 Parer Place (via Musk ave), Kelvin Grove QLD 4059.There will be industry work visits embedded in the curriculum where participants will be required offsite, however, transport will be provided.An optional opportunity will also be available for designers to take part in an interstate industry related visit, however, flights and accommodation costs are at the bearing of participants.
  4. Can interstates/international designers participate in the program?
    Yes, however, one must attend the weekly scheduled masterclasses or workshop onsite in Brisbane.
  5. Can I opt to do the program via a virtual route?
    No, the program is designed to be a ‘high- touch’ onsite syllabus.
  6. What is the cost of the program?
    The total cost over the six-month period is $3300 inclusive of GST which will be broken up into three part payments of $1100 to be invoiced in the first three months.
  7. Are there any other costs to factor into the program?
    Yes, you will be expected to have completed a capsule range with a minimum of six looks (please note that each look can compose of a few pieces eg. top, trousers, jacket). The cost for this can be anywhere between $5,000 to $15,000 with variations depending on fabric/textiles/prints, trims and other components, complexity of designs, number of final looks and largely on how dependant you are for paid technical work (ie. patterns, samples and fittings).
  8. What equipment do I need?
    You will be required to have your own pattern making and general sewing equipment as well as general stationary and folders. A list will be sent out to you once your placement has been accepted.
  9. What equipment is provided?
    Pattern paper and threads are provided (colour options may be limited). You will have access to all equipment and machines including a lockstitch, four thread overlocker, babylock machine, button and button hole machine, Coverstitch machine, industrial Bernina with fancy applications, industrial grade steamer, steam iron and Elna press. In addition, you will have access to Wifi and allocated a permanent desk and hanging space for the duration of the six months with 24/7 secured card access.
