Fashion industry heavyweights to speak at Brisbane’s exclusive Fashion Accelerator Showcase

25 July 2016: To celebrate the 2016 finale of Australia’s only Fashion Accelerator Program for emerging fashion entrepreneurs, QUT Creative Enterprise Australia (CEA) is hosting an exclusive invite-only Fashion Showcase on Friday 29 July, showcasing program participants’ stellar labels and collections.
An interactive ‘fireside chat’ panel discussion will follow on from the showcase, where globally renowned industry experts will share insights on the future of the Australian fashion industry. This year’s panellists include: Edwina McCann, Vogue Australia Editor-in-Chief; Courtney Miller, General Manager of Australian Fashion Chamber; Alannah Hill, Founder and Creative Director of Louise Love Brand; Michel Abeysekera, Director of The Australian Fashion Council; and David Giles-Kaye, Executive Director at Council of TFIA.
Operating since 2011, the CEA Fashion Accelerator has helped develop brands including Gail Sorronda, SOOT, Monica Tovar and Christie Millinery. It is one of the country’s most intensive accelerator programs, providing talented fashion entrepreneurs with cutting edge tools and knowledge, alongside real world experience, to compete in a high-tech environment.
The five emerging fashion talents of this year’s program include: indigenous women’s wear line Arkie by Arkie Barton; Melanie Taylor of children’s clothing line, Peach & Aubrey; Spacefairy, a collection for ‘cultural creatives’ by Melinda Maxfield; ethical homeware and accessory brand Tasha Rui by Natasha Lewis Honeyman; and women’s sleep and loungewear line Zalbah by Rosa Altadonna.
